I hate getting the lids off of paint jars using screwdrivers; I always end up hurting myself and/or sending the thing flying.

While refurbishing my cabinet, I discovered this neat way to open paint jars: just insert the tip of a wine opener under the lip of the lid, and pull gently back. Repeat at intervals around the edges of the lid until the top comes cleanly off.
