Yesterday, Megan and I spent the day refurbishing an ancient cabinet that Kendrick and I dragged off the street a few weeks ago. In this shot, I’m knocking the bottom and sides off of the (totally disgusting and falling-apart) center drawer to create a false front (I figured this step was best done on my rooftop).
Fun fact: the cabinet is covered with graffiti that says “Become Your Dream” and pictures of fish. My original plan was to paint over the graffiti, but in a lovely twist of fate our friend Jackson came over to our place the other day, and upon seeing the cabinet said, “Hey, nice De La Vega.” Turns out that it’s the work of a street artist called James De La Vega, who has a museum on St. Mark’s Place and whose art has been sold for thousands. So of course I left the artwork intact and incorporated it into my concept for the cabinet!
