We have a jicama!
(I swear, my favorite thing about pregnancy may be the random fruit and vegetable comparisons. A jicama?! I don’t even know what a jicama looks like. But I’m sure it’s very cute.)
Maternity clothes: Since I’ve been pretty much confined to the house with book rewrites and travel planning for the past few weeks, I’ve been living in my staples: the Anthropologie tunic pictured here, stretchy denim shorts or leggings, and flip-flops. I have a Lucky maternity style shoot coming up next week, though, so I’ve been having lots of fun picking out looks for that.
Symptoms: I’m feeling good overall, but I’m definitely noticing that I really do need to slow down; even something as little and silly as carrying laundry upstairs and then folding it leaves me kind of out of breath. I also think there’s a foot lodged under my right-side rib.
Baby prep: We’re pretty much done: the nursery is about 99% complete (including the sparkliest Vaseline jar ever, above) – shots coming up! – and the essentials for the first couple of weeks post-arrival already flew out to California with Kendrick.
Sleep: I’m starting to desperately want a nap in the middle of the afternoon, but that’s not really practical, so I’ve been trying to get to sleep earlier these days (also because the baby-kicking, while adorable, does tend to wake me up several times a night). Lucy has also developed a need to be wherever she is not around 4AM (if she is on the bed, she must be off; if she is off the bed, she must be on) and to let me know this by barking, which is awesome.
Still have to pick up: An infant car seat (our old one was stored in the basement, and did not survive the passing of time) and a Snap ‘n’ Go. We have the Mamaroo (above; I think it’s the coolest thing ever) in the living room, but may get a small, inexpensive bouncy seat for the second floor so I have somewhere to put down the baby up there, too (this was the one we had for Indy, and it’s pretty great).
Best moment this week: My mom came up to go to the pool with us a few days ago, and she took Indy to the swingset so I could swim in the adult section for a minute. The water felt incredible…but I ended up getting out after just a couple of laps, because watching my mom trying to teach my son how to pump his legs to make the swing go back and forth was even better.
Worst moment of the week: There have been a couple of days lately where night has fallen and I simply don’t feel physically capable of doing one more thing: my son will want to run around and play, and I’ll seriously need to sit down. The idea of getting down on my knees to give Indy a bath – and then doing the dishes and walking the dogs and battling the flying creatures that come in through the door every time it opens after nightfall – makes me sort of want to cry, and I’m finding myself being a little short with Indy when he refuses to stay in bed after bedtime. Which makes me feel terrible. Helpless, like less of a parent than I want to be. Especially in these last few just-us-three months, I want so much to be running and playing and full of energy, and the fact that I’m not (or at least not always)…it makes me sad.
Miss anything? I would really, really, really like to drink a Corona while laying flat on my back in the hammock, please.
Movement: My stomach is basically a science fiction movie these days.
Food cravings: Carnation Instant Breakfasts are a MAJOR obsession – I drink one every single morning the moment I get up, and if I discover that we are out, I am desperate until I make it to the store to buy more. And Lucky Charms and chocolate-chocolate chip ice cream are still big winners.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope. I don’t want to even hear the word “chicken,” but as long as poultry stays far away from me, I’m good.
Happy or moody: I’m pretty stressed out about the volume of things that need to happen in the next week or so before we hand off the keys to the housesitter…but mostly just excited to meet my daughter. So: happy, I’d say.
On Me: Old Navy military vest; Anthropologie Calla tank; UGG combat boots; Express leggings; necklace, earrings and bracelet ℅ LAGOS; Tote ℅ Everlane.
