Sussex Flea Market

We spent all day yesterday wandering around the enormous Sussex Flea Market (a once-a-year extravaganza with some of the best product – and prices – I’ve ever seen at a flea market). Flea markets located hundreds of miles from your home can be a little frustrating, because that antique high chair or two-hundred-dollar, pristine-condition farmhouse kitchen table really just can’t come home with you…but I made do with lots of other, smaller finds.

Remember the Berenstain Bears?! I loved them – I think I remember having one about a treehouse or something like that. In any case, big stack of books for the baby’s library for $4? Yep!

My aunts and Mom, checking out the merchandise.

I’ve never seen anything like the pattern on these Fire King plates and teacups – so cute for cookies and milk! Or whatever. Bought the whole set for $7.

These were my two favorite purchases: a brooch (sorta into brooches lately) and ring for $2 apiece. And the best part? They totally remind me of this:

(That would be Tiffany & Co., and there’s a matching brooch that doesn’t show up online.)

Here’s another shot of the ring. So pretty. So two dollars.

I’ve never seen Vaseline Glass (also known as Uranium Glass, because of the small amounts of uranium deposits present in it that give it its distinctive color) quite so neon-bright before (more common varieties are yellowish-green or frosted). I didn’t end up buying any – it was more than I wanted to spend – but isn’t it gorgeous? These pieces are all from the early 1900s.

And finally: ooh, poutine. If you’ve never had it (which would be a shame), it’s french fries covered in cheese and gravy, and is a big Canadian specialty.
